Nearly 25,000 residences in southeastern Queensland woke up lacking electricity on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms swept through the state, producing wind gusts hitting 109km/h.

Large Hailstones and Extensive Destruction

Locals witnessed substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of 7 centimeters in certain regions. Weather authorities verified that various areas across Queensland had been hit with significant hail.

Response teams were attempting to repair power throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews deployed to handle the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victorian Climate Difficulties

At the same time, around 1,000 residents in the southern state also encountered electricity disruptions after Melbourne recorded its most precipitation in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams received over five hundred requests for assistance across the area, primarily for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and water accumulation.

• The Werribee area - experienced substantial storm damage
• Hoppers Crossing area - multiple assistance requests
• Wyndham region - nearly 180 help reports

During the peak on yesterday, more than 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were expected to linger along large portions of the state's eastern regions this coming days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was expected to become the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent storm activity expected across different parts of both regions.

Safety Concern

Health officials alerted that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This alert comes after previous incidents where analogous circumstances led to major medical consequences in the state.
