Senate Passes Legislation to Disclose Jeffrey Epstein Files

The upper chamber of Congress on this Tuesday gave swift approval to legislation that will require the publication of case documents associated with the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a almost unanimous vote in the US House of Representatives and a change of position by the president and his Republican allies. The administration gave in after an extended period of trying to block the bipartisan effort involving a controversy that has followed the president since his return to the White House.

Unanimous Approval in Congress

The Senate acted by unanimous consent, which needs acceptance from each senator but does not require a recorded vote, expediting the process. Earlier that day, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a massive majority.

Citizens have waited long enough. The survivors have suffered long enough,” the Senate Democratic leader stated in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before urging the chamber to pass it unanimously. “Let the truth come out. Let transparency reign.”

Next Steps

This legislation next goes to Donald Trump for his signature. The president stated on the previous day that he would sign the measure.

Even though the president has for months dismissed the outcry over the government’s handling of the Epstein case as a “Democrat hoax”, he voiced approval for the measure over the past few days, and announced he would sign the measure if it reaches his desk.

Support and Opposition

Opposition lawmakers, along with those affected and their representatives who were watching from a viewing area, applauded after the bill was passed. The only opposition came from Clay Higgins, who said he worried the measure would reveal specific data of individuals involved, persons of interest and others involved in the investigation.
